Inmates Of Ho Prisons Construct New Offices

The Ho Central prisons has commissioned two new offices for use by its Technical Services Department and the Chaplaincy.

The project, estimated at GHC 10,000 was constructed by the prisoners with internally generated funds and donor support from the community and faith-based organizations.

Mr Victor Agbelengor, Volta Regional Commander of the Prison Service, said the project had become necessary due to congestion at the offices.

He said with the construction of the chaplaincy, the inmates could have privacy during counselling.

Mr. Agbelengor said overcrowding at the prisons remained a great challenge to the Service and called for support to make the place more conducive for inmates.

He said currently, 500 inmates were ‘managing space’ made for 150 people.

“We need the whole society to come on board because the inmates are our own brothers, sisters and children. We need assistance in making the place more conducive for the reformation of the inmates,” Mr Agbelengo stated.
