Washrooms to be built for girls in 48 Ga West schools

Amasaman (G/A), May 09, GNA – Washrooms are to be constructed for girls in 48 selected schools in the Ga West Municipality as part of the effort to make the school environment more-friendly to them.

The World Bank is providing the funding through the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry.

Mr Samuel N. Lawer, Coordinator of the Greater Accra Water and Sanitation Project, announced this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a town hall meeting at Amasaman.

He mentioned the Saint John’s Grammar Senior High School (SHS), Amasaman SHS and Amasaman cluster of schools among the beneficiaries.

Mr. Lawer, who is the Ga West Municipal Planning Officer, said when completed the washrooms would help to remove the inconvenience that school girls in their menstruation often went through.

It would additionally help to prevent open defecation.
