The Ministry of Youth and Sports has agreed in principle to pay for the surgery of former national welterweight champion Isaac Aryee, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has revealed. The former boxer needed GHc14, 000 to undergo surgery on a broken neck.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the GBA, Naa Darkuah Dodoo, earlier this week, Aryee should have undergone surgery days ago but he has been unable to raise the funds needed to undergo the procedure.
She said, the GBA contacted the Ministry and were asked to formally write to the office. The GBA she revealed presented the letter today [Wednesday] and the Ministry agreed in principle to pay for the surgery.
Isaac Aryee was allegedly knocked down whilst driving a motorbike by a car driven by one officer Aikins of the Mamprobi Police on Wednesday afternoon on the Mortuary Road in Accra
Aryee, according to some eyewitnesses was knocked down and, the officer drove away without attending to the injured boxer who was in critical condition until Aryee was saved by a good samaritan who rushed him to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
