Accra, May 12, GNA – Two persons were on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each by an Accra Circuit court for conspiring and robbing one Theophilus Odotei of his Itel mobile phone worth GHÈ¼250.00.
Rudolph Yankah, and Kwasi Debrah both unemployed pleaded not guilty to the charges but were found guilty by the court presided by Mr Aboagye Tandoh.
They are both to serve 10 years each for conspiracy and 10 years each for robbery both to run concurrently.
Earlier the prosecution, Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court that the complainant is a Student, while the convicts are both unemployed and resides at Numgua.
He said the convicts together with some accomplices have been on the police wanted list for some time now, however on September 12, the complainant and some witnesses in the case visited the Nungua Junction Mall to buy some items.
On their way home, at about 23:30 hours, and on reaching Nungua Kantamanto, the convicts and one other now at large attacked them and snatched the complainants Itel mobile phone worth GhÈ¼250.00.
The prosecution, said the complainant and the witnesses attempted to chase them to collect the phone, but all of a sudden, Rudolf pulled out a knife and threatened to harm the complainant, so they retreated.
Police Chief Inspector Adu said a report was made to the police and while the case was under investigation, the two convicts went to commit another offence and were apprehended to the station.
The complainant and his witnesses identified them during an identification parade. Kwasi however stated that even though they snatched mobile phones from people at Nungua Kantamanto, they cannot identify the victims.
