This season’s long awaited Volta Regional Women’s Football League has been postponed indefinitely by the Volta Regional Women’s Football Committee.
This decision was arrived at on Friday, 30th June 2017, the regional women football league was originally scheduled to commence on the 2nd of July 2017.
Chairperson of the Volta regional Women Football Committee, Innocentia Agabvitor, announced that, the Referees Association of Ghana, (RAG) Volta won’t be available to honour the Women’s League matches.
“I am sorry to inform you that the women league scheduled for this weekend has been called off, just because the referees are not available to honor our league matches”. Md. Agabvitor said.
RAG, Volta unwillingness to honor the Women’s League matches was because the Volta Regional Football Association, (VRFA) owes them officiating allowance during last season’s Regional Division Two League.
This declaration has gone a long way in affecting all football activities under RFA, Volta which includes the Women Football Committee.
Madam Agabvitor pleaded with various team owners to take heart as the issue is beyond the Women Football Committee, though she tried persuading the Referee’s front in the region.
“I know you are all hurt. We can’t play without the referees, more so I did my best to convince their chairman but all proved futile. It is unfortunate the women committee have been affected by the sins of the men”. She added.
Six (6) teams from two zones (Northern and Southern) would compete in this season’s Regional Women’s League.
