Officials of Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority [GRA], at Dabala Check Point in the Volta Region, on Sunday arrested a 34-year-old nursing mother for possessing compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect, Bertha Weto, was said to have concealed the 44 compressed parcels in a lady’s bag and was travelling on an Accra-bound Hyundai H200 commercial minibus from Akatsi, with registration number GS4710-13.
Luck, however, eluded her when officials after thorough inspections discovered the parcels in her possession.
Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Aflao Sector, Frank Ashong, said the gross weight of the substance is about 34.83kg.
He said they have since been handed to the head of the Narcotic Control Board [NACOB] unit in Aflao for further examinations.
The suspect has also been handed over to the Aflao Police for investigations.
