England’s hopes of securing a historic whitewash against Australia have been dealt a blow with the confirmation that Liam Plunkett has been ruled out of the final two matches.

Having already taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, Eoin Morgan’s attentions have now turned to the possibility of inflicting a first-ever one-day whitewash on Australia at home.

But the tourists will have to make do without paceman Plunkett, with his hamstring injury meaning he is unlikely to return until the T20 series.
