Former Black Stars captain, Odartey Lamptey has tipped Athletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey for the Black Stars captaincy when Asamoah Gyan retired from the national team.
There have been several talks who should take over from Asamoah Gyan when he hangs his boots.
Odartey Lamptey who played for the Black Star team which had the likes of Abedi Pele as captain also got the opportunity to captain the team himself.
“For now I think Thomas Partey can be the next Captain, the way he plays and even conducts himself on the pitch shows he has leadership qualities”
“As time goes I won’t be surprised Thomas Partey leads the team,” he said in an interview on Asempa FM.
Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has been in the news of late after former Black Stars striker, Prince Tagoe insisted that he does not deserve the national team captaincy after Stephen Appiah retired from the national team and further insisted that either Michael Essien or Sulley Ali Muntari should have been given the armband.
However, former TV3 News anchor and now with GHOne TV, Nana Aba Anamoah also added her voice that former U-20 World Cup winner, Andre Dede Ayew deserves to captain the Black Stars and not the former Sunderland goal poacher.
These accessions did not go down well with Gyan and reacted furiously using his official Instagram page which many Ghanaian football fandoms have described as unacceptable.
