Ghanaian boxer, Joshua Clottey has insisted that the calls made by many Ghanaians that they want to see Isaac Dogboe and Emmanuel Tagoe in the same boxing ring does not make sense and should not be entertained.
After Emmanuel Tagoe defended his IBO Lightweight at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, there have been calls made by many Ghanaian that they want to Dogboe who is the Interim WBO Bantamweight champion in the same ring Tagoe.
Tagoe’s camp threw a challenge to Dogboe, and the latter’s camp has accepted to fight the James Town native at an agreed weight of 130 pounds (super featherweight) but Clottey says both boxers are not in the same rank and the call made by Ghanaians should not be entertained.
“I don’t know who engineered this idea because I have been asked many times and I keep on saying that we as a country shouldn’t support such idea. We shouldn’t hype anything about this proposed fight because there is weight to fight for,” he told Class Sports.
“How can a lightweight and a super bantamweight be in the same ring? Let assume that Emmanuel Tagoe wants to fight Isaac Dogboe and he [Dobgoe] accepts but wants Tagoe to reduce in size because we will have to fight in a certain weight but the truth is Emmanuel Tagoe can never make further weight and even if he is able to do that before he gets into the ring he will be a dead man walking.”
