26-yr-Old Leukemia Patient Needs Financial Support For Surgery

A 26-year-old man has been diagnosed with acute Leukemia and is in dire need of funds to help him undergo surgery in India.

Jeremy Messent, is a Graphic Designer/Media Professional at TBWA Ghana and graduated from the University of Education,Winneba in 2015.

In November last year, he started experiencing chest pains and general weakness. After the pain intensified, he visited the Clinic where an X-ray detected a mass in his chest.

He was then referred to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital on December 7 where he has been admitted to date.

Samples of his bone marrow were subsequently taken to India for testing where the results of the marrow and biopsy tests revealed that he had acute leukemia.

This left Jeremy with severe back pain and unstable temperatures.

After a session of chemotherapy, he became very weak and had to be assisted to walk.

His doctors at Korle-Bu have advised him to have a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and additional chemotherapy to get rid of the chest mass as soon as possible.

He had to be flown to India for the procedures since BMT isn’t performed in Ghana.

Jeremy’s family is appealing to the general public for help with the huge financial expenses of the travel and surgery.

He needs to raise 75,000 dollars within the next two weeks to cater for the costs.

The family has so far been able to raise $50,000, meaning an additional amount of $25,000 must be realised for the surgery.

Donations can be sent to Jeffrey Messent via 0242741659.
