Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong himself of the JOSPONG group of companies on Saturday joined the Accra Mayor, Mohammed Adjei Sowah and the Minister of Sanitation, Kofi Ada, in a massive cleaning campaign which covered major parts of Accra.
The clean up was also done with support from waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd.
The exercise mobilised over 800 workers of Zoomlion who cleaned the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle, Accra-Tema motorway, Nima and Asylum Down, dredged choked drains and swept the streets.
This campaign which is the first of many more to come, falls in line with President Akufo-Addo’s vision to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
Speaking to journalists during the exercise, the Mayor of Accra hinted that his outfit would this time around enforce sanitation Bye-laws with no human face or favouritism.
“We will deal with anyone who just litter and throw rubbish anywhere anyhow”, he said.
He added that a lot of these sanitation challenges are created by humans hence the firm decision of the AMA to go after sanitation offenders.
On his part, the Minister, Kofi Ada called for support from the media to constantly expose sanitation offenders.
“Protecting and cleaning our environment is not the sole responsibility of the government but everybody should get involved. The media Particularly should help us expose the culprits,” he said.
