Aowin Municipal Assembly Accounts to People

The Aowin Municipal Assembly in the Western North region has accounted to the good people of the area on what the Municipality has achieved under the administration of President Akufo-Addo.

In a ‘Meet-the-Press session’ organized by the Assembly to among other things showcase the Assembly and inform the general public about the status of implementation of government policies, projects and programmes, Hon. Samuel Adu Gyamfi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said, the Municipality has achieved alot despite its challenges.

According to him, as part of efforts by the Nana-Addo led administration to ensure transparency and accountability in the governance process at both the national and local levels, government through the Ministry of Information since 2017 has been organizing the ‘Meet-the-Press’ Series and Town Hall Meetings throughout the country.

He said, the ‘Meet-the-Press Series and Town Hall Meetings also aim at educating the general public on government flagship programmes and key government programmes and projects being implemented across the country.

According to him, pursuant to this, the Assembly since his assumption of office in 2017 has remained committed to its noble dream.

He indicated that, in June 2018 and October, 2019, the Assembly successfully organized its maiden Town Hall Meeting and Meet-the-Press session respectively under the Nana-Addo led administration. “Yesterday’s Session was yet another bold step to bring the Assembly closer to the good people of the Municipality.”

Mr Adu Gyamfi said, a total of forty-two (42) development projects together with other programmes initiated by the Assembly and central government are currently on-going in the Municipality and are at various stages of completion.

He hinted that a lot has taken place in the Municipality since their last meeting in 2019. “As you may be aware, I was adjudged the best MMDCE in the Akufo-Addo Administration in the country last year.”

The MCE continued, “Whatever criteria that was used, what it means is that, I was the best among the 260 MMDCEs in the country in 2019. I dedicate the award to the glory of God and the chiefs and good people of the Municipality. It was won through the collective efforts of all of us”.

He stressed that, at the last Meet-the-Press Session in October last year, he indicated that the Aowin Municipality was to get the Regional Feeder Roads Office and two apartments to accommodate officials of the department.

He happily announced that the contract for the construction of the projects has been awarded and work has started steadily.

“Additionally, as you are already aware, Government as part of efforts to ensure an effective Emergency Medical Service System last month released the 307 new ambulances purchased in 2019 under the ‘One Constituency, One Ambulance Initiative’ to the Ministry of Health for distribution to the 275 constituencies across the country. The ambulances are fitted with advanced life support and tracking devices to enable them function effectively and efficiently.

“I am happy to report that the Aowin Constituency has been allocated one of the ambulances and it will soon be delivered. Presently, we are working round the clock to get an office for the Team of Emergency Medical Technicians who are currently undergoing training to be posted to the Aowin Constituency Station of the National Ambulance Service, ” he emphasised.

On the government scholarship scheme which was introduced in 2018, he said, 69 youth from the Municipality in various Tertiary Institutions in the country are presently benefitting under the scheme for the 2019/2020 academic year.

“I wish to inform you that with effect from next academic year, applications under the Programme will be done on-line. Applicants will also be made to take an Aptitude Test on-line after which successful applicants will be invited for interview. Students in the Municipality should therefore brace yourselves for the new mode of application.

“This address will not be complete if I fail to mention efforts Government is making to construct the Mile ‘4’ to Ellubo Road. As you are aware, H.E the President has declared this year a ‘Year of Roads’. This means that there will be massive Road Construction in the country this year. You all know the record of the N.P.P. when it comes to road construction in Aowin.

“I am reliably informed that plans are far advanced to award the construction of the road to a Chinese Construction Company before the end of the year. I am very optimistic that very soon, the procurement process will be completed for the contract to be awarded for work to start on the road. I therefore wish to use this platform to once again make a passionate appeal to the people of the southern part of the constituency and indeed the good people of the Municipality to continue to exercise restraint and keep faith with the Government as it works round the clock to fix the road,” he stressed.
