Six parliamentary candidates who are sitting Members of Parliament on the ticket of the NPP in the Greater Accra Region are going unopposed.

The six are expected to be acclaimed as the sole candidates for their respective constituencies come April 25, which is the date the NPP has set aside for party’s primaries.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Daniel Parker Odarlai France, who is the Regional Secretary and serves on the National Parliamentary Vetting Committee of the Party.

The six persons are Alhaji Abu-Bakar Saddique of Madina constituency, Mr Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent MP for Okaikwei Central, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful incumbent MP for Ablekuma West, Mr. Henry Quartey, the incumbent MP for Ayawaso Central and Deputy Minister of the Interior, Madam Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, the sitting MP for Weija-Gbawe and Mr Moses Anim of Trobu constituency.

Some aspirants from the constituency were disqualified by the Vetting Committee and were not recommended.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Region where 15 aspirants were disqualified out of the 79 vetted, there have been protests.

Over four hundred polling station executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Akropong Constituency of the Eastern Region petitioned the National Executives of the party over the disqualification of Philip Addison and William Agyei Twumasi from the parliamentary primaries.

Their disqualification has left the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah as the sole runner in the upcoming primaries.

There are many more silent protests with some disqualified aspirants contemplating going independent.
