President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced the closure of all Public and Private Educational Institutions in the country as part of measures to contain novel coronavirus pandemic
This comes on the back of the spread of CoronaVirus in Ghana with four more new cases recording making the number of new infections in the West African country 6.
Speaking in a live session on Television, the President said ” All Universities, Senior High Schools, and basic schools, i.e. public and private schools, will be closed Monday, 16th March, 2020, till further notice. The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, has been tasked to roll out distance learning programmes. However, BECE and WASSCE candidates will be allowed to attend school to prepare for their examinations, but with prescribed social distancing protocols;
He indicated that the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Communication has been tasked to roll out distance learning programmes for schools.
The President however stated that Candidates for the West African Senior Secondary School Examination and Basic Education Examination will stay back in school but indicated that they will practice social distancing to ensure their safety.
Ghana has recorded six positive cases of Coronavirus since last week. According to the government, the cases reported are in the Ashanti Region and the Greater Accra Region.
