Ghana would’ve been the hardest hit if we listened to NDC on evacuating Ghanaian students – Sammy Awuku

The National Organizer of the new patriotic Party, NPP, Sammy Awuku says Ghana would have been the worse hit by the Coronavirus if government had yielded to calls by some members of the opposition to evacuate Ghanaian students in Wuhan, MyNewsGh.com can report.

There were calls on government by some Minority Members of Parliament which was spearheaded by Okudzeto Ablakwah for government to evacuate Ghanaian students based in Wuhan.

These calls did not yield the needed results because government did not succumb to their pressure.

Speaking on this issue on Accra-based Accra FM and monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku noted that if government had yielded to the pressure mounted on her to bring back these students, it would have created a major problem for the country.

He said “We would have been in trouble if we had succumbed to the pressure of the NDC to evacuate Ghanaian students in Wuhan, China. Check the figures of the countries that evacuated their citizens from Wuhan; Italy, Spain, France, UK, US and Iran, check the figures of these countries”.

“So sometimes the suggestions we push down on government’s throat… had it not been that government was resolute in its decision. I think we should be careful with what we wish for. If we had listened to our brothers from the NDC at the time, I think the situation would have been worse.”

On locking down the country, Sammy Awuku called on Ghanaians to be patient with government because consultation on ongoing and that if there’s the need for it, government will do the needful.
