The Ghana Statistical Service has made known to the public that the disinfection exercise that was carried out by the Ministry Of Local Government and the Rural Development on Monday 23,2020, in various markets in Accra and Tema resulted in the death of more than 80,000 rodents at the Mokola Market alone.
The rodents that were killed in the Process included Mice, Rats Grass cutters, Cockroaches, snakes amongst others.
For years the Mokola market has been one of the busiest dwellings of these insects and rodents -using the marketplace as their habitat.
In the wake of the recent pandemic Covid-19,it becomes necessary for the government f Ghana, through the Ministry of Local Government disinfecting these markets, thereby exposing these rodents in danger.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, these are the information the office received from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and awaiting data from other markets like Madina, also noted as one of the notorious dwellings of these rodents and insects.
In the report by the Data Management Department of the Ghana Statistical Service, it is estimated that the number of Rodents killed during this disinfection exercise across all markets will toll up to a total of 455,000- Rodents Constituency.
The report states that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Is yet to decide whether to carry out a mass burial for these Dead Rodents. This decision is to be taken by the close of the day.
