6 Ghanaian Soldiers have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service, after they were caught, planning a Coup D’etat against the National Patriotic Party, this 2020 December elections. In brief, coup d’etat simply means, removing or overthrowing a government which is in power, by using violent and harmful means.

This information was communicated by the Ghanaian Popular Journalist, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, on Okay FM, this morning. According to the newspapers, the soldiers, who were arrested, were in possession of guns and bombs. The guns seemed to be that of which is locally made in Ghana, and few of them were foreign ones.

This simply means that they were planning to neutralize an elaborate plot targeted on the Presidency, and with the ultimate aim of destabilizing the country. Ghana’s first Coup D’etat was recorded in 1979, with Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings leading it. But the coup was unsuccessful at that time.

And judging from the mindset of these soldiers who were arrested today, one can conclude that, there could be more people in connection with those arrested, who are planning the Coup. Also, according to the news, the soldiers were planning to overthrow President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, leader and flag bearer of the NPP, and this could mean that the soldiers are NDC.
