Lifting of Ban on Social Gatherings or not: Akufo-Addo speaks tonight

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to address the country with his eighth update on measures taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana and also to decide whether to lift the ban on social gatherings or extend it

The Address is expected to take place at 8pm today April 26, 2020 and many are anticipating an announcement on whether or not they can perform funerals following the ban on public gatherings

The President is expected to brief the country on the ban on public gatherings including Church Services, funerals, weddings and parties which has resulted in chocked mortuaries throughout the country with some threatening to embark on mass burials if dead bodies remain unclaimed

The President is also expected to give the country an update on the ban on human traffic through the country’s borders and how it has played a key role in helping to contain the disease.

Last week, the President met with several statekeholders including the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Council of State, Trades Union Congress (TUC), National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Christian Council, Muslim leadership and will be expected to brief the country on the outcomes of these meetings.

The President during his last update ended the country’s partial lockdown of Greater Accra, Tema and Greater Kumasi.

Ghana’s case count currently sits at 1,550 with 11 deaths recorded while the number of recoveries sits at 155.
