Colleague police officers in Koforidua Central Police station in the Eastern Regional Capital have become inconsolable following news of the death of Chief Inspector Ebenezer Sakyi as a result of the novel coronavirus.

He is the first police officer to have died of the virus which left colleagues distraught after the health authorities broke the news to them.
A team of health personnel led by Dr. Abu Armel, a Public Health Physician at the Regional Hospital, Koforidua and Eastern Regional Health Disease Control, Mr. Richard Essien and Sally Tettey Emmanuel also Eastern regional Disease Control officers, Denis Bansah and Cyril Azornu both of New Juabeng South Municipal Assembly Disease Control Office visited the station to inform police of the cause of death of the late Chief Inspector Ebenezer Sakyi, 55.
According to the health professionals who conveyed the news to colleagues of the deceased, there is the need to test close family, personnel, close associates who have been with him and among other people for the virus as they could have been exposed.
They indicated that they are also to do the contact tracing due to the situation and that they have already gone to the police clinic at koforidua and new land hospital , koforidua and took samples of all the staff.
Meanwhile, a team has been stationed at the central police on today May31, 2020 to take samples of personnel for testing
