I Will Never Forget The Pain Rawlings Caused My Father – Prof. Gyampo Drops A Sad Story

Political Science lecturer at the political science department of the University of Ghana, Professor Edward Ransford Gyamfo has indicated that, he will never forget the pain Jerry John Rawlings (Late) caused his father, Mr. Bismarck Gyampo in 1979.

Speaking on United Television’s Critical Issues, Professor Ransford Edward Gyampo indicated that his father, Bismarck Gyampo painfully left Ghana to seek political asylum in the United Kingdom due to the fear of being getting himself killed by the late Jerry John Rawlings.

Recounting the painful story, Professor Ransford Gyampo disclosed that after the 1979 coup, his father and Mr. Akufo became a target on the assassination list by Jerry John Rawlings. According to him his father (Bismark Gyampo) after getting a hint of Rawling’s plot warned Akufo that they should run out of the country, a suggesting Akufo denied.

Professor Ransford Gyampo noted that his father then left Akufo, and relocated to the United Kingdom to seek asylum. He sadly adds that the late Jerry John Rawlings and his group went ahead and shot Akufo dead, soon after his father had left the country. He adds that his father only returned to the country in 2005.

“The day Rawlings died, I called my father in the evening and broke the news to him. That is when he started talking about the pain Rawlings caused him.  And some of the things he told me were very bitter.

He was very bitter because my father left his children and wife to the United Kingdom in 1979 when I was only two years, I never saw him again until 2005 when he came back. Now I’m unable to have that beautiful relationship with my father, and that is because of what Rawlings did to him.

It all happened after the 1979 coup, just after that my father told Akufo that from the way Rawlings is speaking, he might end up killing them so they should leave. Akufo did not believed my father, and he declined to run away with him.

Soon after my father left, Akufo was shot dead by Rawlings and his group. So, if my father had been in this country at the time, he would have also died with Akufo”. Professor Gyampo sadly indicated.
