“Call them all within one week” – Asakyiri family raises curses on the murderers of 19-year old girl

No matter our crimes committed, we will account to it one day but the Asakyiri family of Toase thinks they should not wait for that day of judgement before their daughter and granddaughter receives justice. Toase is one of the vibrant towns in the Ashanti region and it belongs to the Nkawie District of Kumasi. It is the capital of the district and the hub of development with secondary school and hospital all within the town.

Melinda Abena Danso who completed Yaa Asantewaa senior high school this year was not allowed to see her results when her life was taken away from her in an unacceptable manner. Melinda who was one of the famous young women of the school was brilliant as many attributed her brain development to that of her father Mr Asante Danso. Melinda is the first of three children and the only one to have completed senior high school among her siblings.

She was sent by her mother to retrieve money from one of her customers on last week Monday 2 November but did not return back. Her mother Maame Ataa popularly called is one of the cloth dealing women of Nkawie and Toase. She sells on high purchase to her clients and they repay back within three months after taking. Customers calls and she goes to pick the money herself. On the 2 November, a customer Maame Ataa has been waiting for called her about the readiness of her money and Maame Ataa instructed her elder daughter Melinda to go and collect it.

Melinda left the house of her family around 9am and never returned back. Her mother thought she has passed by her grandma’s house since the grandma lives few blocks away from the one Melinda was going to take the money from, so did not bother to check on her daughter or called her. Melinda’s father Mr Danso who needed the services of her daughter called her around 4pm and she was not picking. This made the mother to check on the person who was supposed to give the money to Melinda and the person said Melinda hasn’t showed up since leaving the house at 9 in the morning.

They tried calling her grandma who lives in the same area and she too confirmed Melinda hasn’t been there. This made Mr Danso who has installed a tracker in all her family’s phone to call his work place for them to trace where Melinda was. Mr. Danso’s company which deals in electrical gadgets and engineering traced the phone to an abandoned place at Kumasi Berman, several kilometres away from Toase.

They rushed there and Melinda was lying lifeless with scattered hair. She might have struggled with her enemies when they tried to attack her. She was rushed to the Suntreso Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead when they arrived there. Doctors found sedatives in her autopsy report which makes the family believes Melinda was abducted before her enemies took her to Berman.

She was placed at the Nkawie-Toase mortuary for temporary rest until this morning when family prepared her for burial. The Asakyiri clan are very sure that she was murdered and in request to that has raised electric wires to the right hand of Melinda and poured libation to their totem the Vulture to give Melinda all the spiritual backing she needs to call everyone who has hands in his death. The planner and all the doers must be called according to the narration of their curse. The wires are to be used to beat them for six days and calling them on the seven days.
