Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Sunday replaced the country’s Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya.
In a statement released by his office, the Zambian leader thanked the former minister for the services rendered and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Jonas Chanda has since been appointed as the new health minister, according to the statement.
However, no reasons have been given for the termination of the health minister.
The health ministry has come under scrutiny over the distribution of expired drugs, including condoms last year and the manner the contract was awarded to a company that supplied the drugs.
Calls have heightened for the firing of the health minister as well as senior officials in the ministry.
Chilufya, 48, was appointed health minister in 2016. Enditem
