Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration is underway, as a host of famous faces help welcome the 46th president of the United States to the White House.
Inauguration Day began 11.30am ET (4.30pm GMT) with Lady Gaga’s performance of the US national anthem. This will be followed by a traditional invocation, which is usually delivered by a reverend. Jennifer Lopez performed “This Land is Your Land”.
Vice president-elect Kamala Harris was sworn in by supreme court justice Sonia Sotomayor shortly before noon (ET). Biden was then sworn in as US president at 5pm GMT by chief justice John Roberts, and followed with his inaugural address.
Most presidents have an inaugural ball thrown in their honour after they are sworn in. This year, however, actor Tom Hanks will host a 90-minute TV special featuring celebrities including Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato and Jon Bon Jovi.
Here’s the official info on tonight’s concert special:
“Hosted by Tom Hanks, this 90-minute prime-time program will feature remarks from President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris and include remarks and performances that represent the rich diversity and extensive talent America offers. Celebrating America will feature Ant Clemons, Jon Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, John Legend, Eva Longoria, Demi Lovato, Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, and Kerry Washington.”

Earlier today, Trump completed a farewell address to his fans at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland before heading home to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, jetting out as Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” was belted across the airfield.
That was Garth Brooks performing “Amazing Grace”.
