Farouk Aliu Mahama reveals how his late father almost disowned him for dropping out of KNUST

The Member of Parliament for Yendi Constituency in the Northern Region, Farouk Aliu Mahama has made a shocking revelation of how his father, the late Former Vice President Aliu Mahama almost disown him for dropping out of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

According to him, he stopped schooling at KNUST 2005 where he was reading Bachelor’s Degree in Planning and ran to London, United Kingdom where he stayed with his uncle who happened to be the London COCOBOD manager at the time. He abandoned KNUST because of his dislike for the course he was doing.

This, Farouk says angered his father who then called the uncle he was staying with in London and told him [uncle] to force him [Farouk] to come back to Ghana to complete the degree program at KNUST or get disowned.

“It got to a point in time I was supposed to complete Tek [KNUST] and I refused. I went to London and he said I should come and complete and get the certificate and I said no. So I went to London. By then, my uncle was the London COCOBOD Manager and I stayed with him.

“…my father called him and said if I don’t come back to Ghana and finish Tek and take the certificate, he would disown me. So, my uncle made me to come and I told my dad that the course I was doing in Tek; I don’t like it and that I wanted to go to GIMPA,” he narrated.

Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama was speaking on Citi TV’s Upside Down program on February 21. 2021 which was monitored by this portal.

Meanwhile, Farouk completed his degree program at GIMPA and later enrolled and got a master’s degree from Coventry University in the United Kingdom.
