Despite the wide notion that Ghana has never been represented and won at the prestigious award ceremony which is the Grammys, it is not the case.
As a matter of fact, some top musicians in Ghana have made the step by getting nominated for and winning at the Grammys.
In the year 2015, Reggae/Dancehall Artist Rocky Dawuni was nominated in the “Best Reggae Album” category for his album “Branches of the Same Tree” at the 58th Grammys. Rocky was the first Ghanaian to be nominated in that category. Although he didn’t win, his nomination is still something of utmost significance.
In the year 2017, producer KillBeatz also won a Grammy for producing Ed Sheeran’s “Divide” album. The album won “Best Pop Vocal Album” at the 60th Grammys.
In that same year (2017), Fuse ODG won his first Grammy for featuring in “Ed Sheeran’s “Divide” album. He was credited as a Songwriter on his hit song “Bibia Be Ye Ye.”
