26 landguards who caused mayhem at funeral in Apam granted bail

The Apam District Court has granted bail to 26 persons who caused mayhem at a funeral in Apam in the Central Region.

Believed to be landguards, reports indicate that the suspects were from Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspects are to reappear in court on April 24, 2021.

The court presided over by Her Lordship Margaret Mensa cautioned the suspects that, anyone who refuses to appear in court on the said day will pay a fine of GHS12,000.

Four of the suspects have been released to the police in Amasaman to help in investigations in a separate incident.

A suspected armed robber in the grips of the Amasaman police identified the four as part of a robbery syndicate in the Amasaman enclave.

On Saturday, April 10, 2021, a group of suspected to be landguards from Ashaiman attacked some mourners at a funeral in Apam after violence erupted between them and the youth of the town.

According to Citi News sources, the violence began after the family of a woman who died in Ashaiman warned the husband not to attend the funeral because he refused to inform them of their relative’s death.

But the man allegedly defied the orders and went to the funeral in Apam which resulted in the violent activity.

Eight persons who were stabbed during the altercation are currently receiving treatment at a health facility in the area.

The District Best Farmer for the Apam community, Appiah Bonsu believes justice will be served to the Apam community on the next adjourned date.
