Motorists plying the Damongo-Canteen road in the West Gonja Municipal of the Savannah Region have expressed fear after a major culvert on the stretch of the road caved in after a heavy downpour in the early evening of saturday May 1, 2021.
The caved in culvert which occurred at about 7p.m on saturday brought about massive inconvenience to motorists and prompted great public outcry and fear among travellers.
They attributed the collapse of the over two decades culvert to torrential downpours over the years and the weight of over loaded heavy-duty trucks especially trucks carrying rose wood logs and charcoal using that part of the road to their destinations.
The Assembly Man for the area, Hon. Rashid “Atalia” who created the indulgence of the media to the unfortunate scene, appealed to the appropriate quarters to as a matter of urgency remedy or salvage the situation so as to avert any unforseen circumstances.
He further maintained that the situation if not expediently worked on could caused havoc.
