Zambian Vice-President Inonge Wina on Friday received the COVID-19 vaccine and called for more sensitization on the importance of taking the vaccine.

The Zambian vice-president received the vaccine at the country’s highest referral hospital, the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, the country’s capital, according to the state broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.

She urged the media to play a critical role in disseminating correct information on the vaccine in order to ally the misconceptions being peddled, according to the broadcaster.

Zambia launched the vaccination program last month. The program was being done in a phased manner on a voluntary basis.

At least 71,561 people have received the vaccine, according to health ministry figures. Enditem
