Mr. Frank Okpenyen, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, has donated food items to Muslims within his Municipality towards the successful ending of Ramadan.
The food items included twenty-five (25) bags of rice and twenty-five (25) bags of sugar and these items will be distributed to nine Mosques.
Additionally, the MCE donated an undisclosed amount of money to each of the Muslim communities at their Mosques.
The beneficiary Muslim Communities included; Nyamebekyere, Anagye, Kegyina, Yediyesele, Ndatiem, Ayisakro, Ewuku, Bankyim Central at Axim and Axim Police Quarters.
Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and during this holy month, Muslims observe fasting from dawn to dusk.
This year’s Ramadan started on 12th April, 2021 and will end on 12th May, 2021 and it will be also followed by Eid-ul-Fitr celebration on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
Making the presentation, the Nzema East MCE Frank Okpenyen disclosed that donation was his small contribution in ensuring that the Muslims had a successful fast.
He commended the Muslims in his Municipality for living with Christians and traditionalists in peace.
He therefore, pledged to support Muslim brothers and sisters in the area without any discrimination.
The MCE took the opportunity to call on the Muslims to rally behind the Akufo-Addo-led government to develop Ghana for the benefit of all.
He also expressed gratitude for the continuous support he received from the Muslim community and appealed to them to pray for his re-appointment.
The MCE who is a Christian, urged other Christians to continue to live in peace with all Muslims in this country.
“I am Christian and I don’t think we Christians should have problem with our brother Muslims, we are all Ghanaians and human beings so I will appeal with all Christians to live in peace with Muslims in this country”, he said.
On usage of Victoria Park for the Eid Ul Fitr celebration, Hon. Frank explained that he had appealed to the contractor to withhold the start of the construction of the Victoria Park Redevelopment Phase II for a week to enable the Muslims gather to celebrate the end of the Ramadan.
The Muslims seized the opportunity to thank the MCE for the kind gesture and prayed for his to live long and also achieve his goal.
