The Ghana Nurse & Midwife Trainees Association has announced indefinite strike to demand the release of clearance letters and payment of trainee allowances.
The trainees who staged a demonstration in Accra on Monday, say they have not been paid book and research, clinical as well as transportation allowances due them for the past two years.
The students who massed at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, held placards some of which read: We are dying, we deserve better, Mahama we need our money, yεmpε pad [we do not need sanitary pad]; we need our money among many others.
They have therefore resolved not to go to work in the various hospitals and health centres across Ghana until further notice.
“We are very, very frustrated…the government is not fulfilling its part of the contract”, an aggrieved student told Joy News’ Michaela Anderson.
