Black Stars not psyched up for Wednesday’s cracker

Coach and Sports commentator, Nana Agyemang has expressed doubt that Ghana’s Black Stars would put up a good performance in Wednesday’s game with the Les Eperviers of Togo.

By his assessment, the team is not psychologically fit to do well in the Afcon 2015 qualifiers against their Togolese counterparts.

He added that skipper Asamoah Gyan would also not perform any better on the field of play because of a pending court case against his elder brother Baffour Gyan.

“I don’t think the players are psychologically in the right frame of mind anyway; most certainly, definitely not the captain because he is now thinking about the charges that have been placed against his brother and the fact that there is still an impending court case. And I believe that it affected his contribution to the game on Saturday,” Nana Agyemang told Joy News Night Tuesday.

Baffour Gyan was declared wanted last Saturday by the Ashanti Regional Police for allegedly leading six muscular men to attack Daily Graphic’s Ashanti Regional Editor, Daniel Kenu.

At a pre-match conference in Kumasi, Mr. Kenu wanted to confirm from Asamoah Gyan rumours that he (Asamoah) had “sacrificed” his friend, Castro for rituals when they went on holiday in Ada.

Angered by the question, Baffour Gyan reportedly led an attack on the journalist and running into trouble with the law.

He and Asamoah Gyan’s manager, Anim Addo have been charged with assault by the Kumasi police.

Nana Agyemang believes that case is likely to affect the Black Stars’ captain’s morale.

He recounted that Kwesi Appiah had publicly stated that he did not request for any technical assistant.

And that Milovan Rajevac’s arrival as technical assistant means Kwesi Appiah may lose his job as the Black Stars’ coach.

“Psychologically, that will have a negative effect on him [Kwesi Appiah] because he is already grappling with how to manage the team and how to [win matches],” he noted.

According to him, “it’s all over the airwaves that if he doesn’t win this match tomorrow, then he would be fired. He, grappling with all these issues very disturbed as well as the players will also be very disturbed and it may not lead to a performance that will give as three points.”
