Sarkodie’s Music Can’t Cross Borders – Gyedu-Blay Ambolley Lambasts Contemporary Musicians

Veteran Ghanaian musician, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley who calls himself the originator of Rap has expressed his opinion about Sarkodie’s music.

According to Mr. Ambolley, King Sark is a good rapper but the music that carries his rap is not helping him go international. The “Abrantie” singer is, however, full of praise for Bisa Kdei.

He told Berla Mundi on GhOne Tv that apart from Sarkodie’s rap which is in Twi, his music is just like a foreign music (American Music) and foreigners won’t buy a sub-copy of their music. He noted that if even Sarkodie gets to perform abroad, he only performs to the Ghanaians abroad.

These were his words on Rythmz One On One: “Sarkodie is a good rapper, Yes that’s fine but the music that is supporting his music is not helping him because that kind of music won’t cross the shores of Ghana … When we hear Sarkodie and all my brothers and and sisters who are into music go over there, they go only to play for the Ghanains“

The veteran musician also attributed Obrafour’s music to same fate likewise all Ghanaian Dancehall acts. He emphatically mentioned that he is not impressed with Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. He stated that Stonebwoy is a volatarian and he can do something original with the Ewe language than ‘patois‘.

The legend once again bragged off his chest that he is the originator of rap music and even Reggie Rockstone recognizes that.

“I am the tree, the rest are all branches and don’t forget at some point in time the branch fall and the tree generates another branch … so I am the tree and Reggie Rockstone is a branch of me”
