Asante Kotoko coach Steve Polack
Asante Kotoko coach Steve Polack has compared the partnership of his side’s central defensive pair of Wahab Adams and Awudu Nafiu to Manchester United greats Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Following the departure of Awal Mohammed and Ahmed Adams in the aftermath of last term’s Ghana Premier league campaign, Asante Kotoko have found a new central defensive paring in Awudu Nafiu and Wahab Adams ahead of the coming season as both players have been the defensive rock during their pre-season program.
Nafiu joined the Porcupine Warriors as a free agent prior to last season’s campaign but had to understudy the aforementioned departed players while Adams joined from Aduana Stars after helping the Dormaa-based side clinch the league title.
And coach Polack has likened the defensive solidity formed by the duo to Vidic and Ferdinand during their trophy-landen time at English Premier League record holders Manchester United.
“Sometimes you need to have a very hard tackler and a cool collected to support and that is what we have in Nafiu and Adams’’- He told Kumasi based Nhyira FM.
“It reminds me of the partnership between Ferdinand and Vidic at Man United. You have one who is like I don’t care and will go in for everything and other being calm and collected.”
“For me that is a good combination. We have to continue to build that relationship between them.”
Kotoko were pipped 1-0 by Aduana Stars in the Super Cup clash at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
