The transfer window is alive and kicking as we transition away from Euro 2020 and international football towards the club game again.
Some of the standout performances of this summer’s tournament may have done enough to earn a move, including Manuel Locatelli, with Sassuolo poised to cash in on the Italy midfielder, with Juventus and Arsenal keen.
And there have already been some significant signings with Crystal Palace landing Chelsea’s Marc Guehi for £18 million.
While Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed a new five-year deal with Barcelona, which will seemingly involve the captain taking a huge pay cut due to the financial difficulties that the club are experiencing.
Barca teammate Antoine Griezmann looks likely to leave the Nou Camp, with the Blaugrana seemingly eager to send him back to Atletico Madrid and acquire Saul Niguez in return. There have also been rumours that the France international might be heading to Chelsea on loan, but a return to Atletico looks much more likely at his point.
Elsewhere, Jadon Sancho’s long-awaited move to Manchester United could be confirmed at any moment, with the young England winger having completed his medical a few days ago, and the Old Trafford club seems to be the preferred destination for Three Lions teammate Kieran Trippier. The defender is reportedly keen for a Premier League return from Atletico Madrid.
In other news, Leicester are hopeful of fending off Liverpool to retain midfielder Youri Tielemans, per The Telegraph, and the Daily Mirror report that Tammy Abraham could be used by Chelsea to boost a trade deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
Meanwhile, Euro 2020’s player of the tournament, Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, has signed a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain. He joins the French side from AC Milan.

Lingard in Manchester United’s plans, says Solskjaer
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted Jesse Lingard is in the club’s plans for next season.
The 28-year-old midfielder made just three appearances in the first half of the 2020-21 campaign before going out on loan to West Ham in January.
And Lingard thrived at the London Stadium as he netted nine times in 16 games, a sensational run of form which saw him named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2020.
His future at Old Trafford has been called into question following his impressive spell at West Ham, but Solskjaer feels there is a place for him in their squad.
The Man Utd boss said: “Jesse has come back, been bright, he wants to fight for his place and there’s nothing better than seeing players want to fight for their place.
“What he did towards the end of last season, that’s the true Jesse, that’s what we know he’s capable of and I think we saw towards the end that we lacked some options at times and Jesse is in the plans at the moment, yeah.”

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has confirmed Andy Carroll is looking for a new club having left Tyneside.
The former England international was said to have left St James’ Park ‘amicably’, two years after re-joining the club.
It was Carroll’s second spell at Newcastle following his £50 million departure to Liverpool back in 2011.

Man Utd youngster Pellistri set for loan move
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed youngster Facundo Pellistri is set for a move out on loan as he continues his development.
The 19-year-old Uruguayan scored in Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Derby on Sunday.
But he is still set for some more time away from Old Trafford before competing for a place in the squad.
Solskjaer told the club website: “I can see a loan deal for him.

Klopp gives Gomez injury update
Jurgen Klopp has revealed Joe Gomez has received “no setbacks at all” after rejoining Liverpool training on his return from a knee injury.
The England defender suffered a tendon injury in his left knee last year, forcing him to undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the Premier League campaign and Euro 2020.
The 24-year-old has joined Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the Reds’ pre-season training camp in Austria.
And Klopp is delighted with Gomez’s progress ahead of his return to the first team this season.
“Not at all. No setbacks at all. Not for Joe, nothing – he’s trained completely normal,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website.
“That’s the thing, these boys are not injured anymore, they are just not at 100 per cent yet. There are usually setbacks but so far there were no setbacks with Joe and Virgil and nobody [else] – they are all fine.
“What they had to do they did, no reaction with the knee, nothing, all fine. The world wide web had obviously too much time.”
Dest to stay at Barcelona
Barcelona defender Sergino Dest has confirmed he wants to stay at the club despite being linked with a move to Arsenal.
The 22-year-old will have to fight for his place in the side after Barcelona signed £9 million right-back Emerson earlier this summer, but that is not said to have phased Dest.
Speaking to RAC 1, he said: “I want to continue at Barca.”
Maddison comments on preferred position amind Arsenal speculation
James Maddison has revealed he prefers to play as a No8 rather than No10 amid speculation he could move to Arsenal.
The Gunners set up in a 4-3-3 and the Leicester midfielder could fit perfectly into their system if Mikel Arteta was to sign him.
Speaking about his ideal position, Maddison told Leicestershire Live: “No.8 definitely.
“I played as a No.10 at the start of last season, and then when the gaffer came in, I transitioned into a No.8, and sometimes I play off the left.
“I don’t want to be labelled as a No.10. I’m not a No.10. I can’t remember a game where I’ve played as a No.10 this season, maybe West Ham at home.
“Being a No.8 has made me add that defensive side to my game.
“I’m never going to be a big tackler, I’m never going to go around smashing people. It’s that awareness and that responsibility of getting little toes in, little interceptions, because as a No.8 you find yourself deeper a lot, so I’ve had to add that.”
Jimenez returns in first Wolves appearance since head injury
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez played his first game since fracturing his skull in November, featuring in a 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat by third-tier Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
The 30-year-old Mexico international, who now wears protective headgear, almost scored on his return to action, striking the bar with a free kick before being replaced by Patrick Cutrone after 33 minutes.
Jimenez was injured on 29 November after a clash of heads with Arsenal defender David Luiz and received lengthy treatment on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher and rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
He was back in training in February and cleared to return in May but was not risked for Wolves’ final game of the season against Manchester United.
Jimenez has scored 48 goals in 110 appearances for Wolves in all competitions, and netted four times in nine Premier League games last season before his injury.

He said: “I am really excited to be signing a new contract with Chelsea.
“Having come through the academy here it was a special moment for me to make my first-team debut last year, before gaining further experience on loan at Vitesse last season.
“I want to build on these foundations and I am really looking forward to progressing and making an impact at Chelsea in the years to come.”
Solskjaer tight-lipped on Varane transfer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not giving anything away about the possibility of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane joining the club.
The French centre-back is in talks with a move to Old Trafford, but Solskjaer has refused to comment on the situation.
He said: “Varane? I only speak about players when we sign them.”
