Former Team USA doctor Larry Nassar sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison

Former Team USA gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar was sentenced Wednesday to 40 to 175 years in prison on seven charges of criminal sexual conduct. “I just signed your death warrant,” Judge Rosemarie Aquilina told Nassar during the sentencing.

Some 156 impact statements were read by victims at his trial, including powerful condemnations by Olympic gold medalists Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber. Judge Aquilina did not mince words speaking to Nassar, telling him: “I would not send my dogs to you, sir.” She added, “You do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again.”

Before his sentencing, Nassar, 54, addressed survivors, saying “there are no words that can express how sorry I am. I will carry your words with me for the rest of my days.” Separately, Nassar was sentenced in December to 60 years in prison for child pornography crimes, one of his three criminal cases.
