The daily gossip: Star Wars gives Gina Carano the boot, new(ish) Taylor Swift music is on the way, and more

Gina Carano, the former MMA fighter who played the no-nonsense mercenary Cara Dune for two seasons of The Mandalorian, will no longer be welcome in a galaxy far, far away. The actress is “not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” Lucasfilm said Thursday, after Carano drew fire this week for sharing an Instagram post comparing violence against Jews in Nazi Germany to people with conservative political views in the United States. “Her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” Lucasfilm said. The previously-announced Mandalorian spinoff Rangers of the New Republic had “seemed to suggest a path for [Carano’s] character,” Variety reports, but “Lucasfilm has not yet announced a cast for the new show.” [The Associated Press, The Week]

Taylor Swift is putting a fresh coat of paint on some old classics — and bringing some unheard ones out of “the vault.” The pop star is set to release a re-recorded version of her second studio album Fearless, which she announced Thursday will include six previously unreleased songs. Swift is calling this “Taylor’s version” of the hit 2008 album, and the re-recorded version of her song “Love Story” will drop at midnight. Swift previously announced plans to re-record her old songs to gain ownership over their master recordings amid a feud with Scooter Braun, the music manager who obtained the rights to her first six albums’ masters and whom she has accused of “incessant, manipulative bullying.” Taylor’s version of Fearless is set to be released on April 9. Gorilla Glue lady is free! Tessica Brown, the woman who went viral for saying she’d had Gorilla Glue on her scalp for more than a month after using it in the place of hairspray, flew from Louisiana to Los Angeles on Wednesday for a procedure to remove the substance. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Obeng spent four hours working on Brown’s head — a $12,500 procedure he performed for free — and confirmed to CBS Los Angeles that “Tessica is doing well. She’s awake. The hair crew is doing her hair.” Obeng’s secret? Medical-grade adhesive remover, aloe vera, olive oil, and acetone, to break down the main ingredient, polyurethane, in super glue. But kids, take it from Brown: you absolutely do not want to try this one at home. [TMZ, The New York Post]

Good news: it sounds like Samantha will not be killed off in the Sex and the City reboot. Fans were left speculating about how her absence would be handled after HBO Max confirmed plans for the new series, And Just Like That…, which will not involve actress Kim Cattrall. HBO Max’s chief content officer, Casey Bloys, told TVLine that Samantha’s disappearance will more likely be explained as friends naturally drifting apart. “It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s,” Bloys said of the show. And “just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. … So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.” [TVLine, Vulture]

Meghan Markle has scored a victory in her legal battle against a U.K. tabloid. The Duchess of Sussex sued Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Mail on Sunday and MailOnline, over a series of articles that included parts of a private letter she wrote to her father, and she won the privacy claim on Thursday, NBC News reports. Judge Mark Warby ruled that the articles interfered with Meghan’s “reasonable expectation that the contents of the letter would remain private” in a summary judgement before the case could go to a full trial, according to CNN. The ruling comes after Prince Harry won “significant” damages in another case against Associated Newspapers over an article claiming he turned his back on the military. [NBC News, The Week]
