The daily gossip: Malia Obama is reportedly joining forces with Donald Glover, Dolly Parton politely turns down another honor, and more

Donald Glover has signed an eight-figure multiyear deal with Amazon, which is exciting news for his fans (made even more exciting by the fact that it reportedly won’t interfere with seasons three and four of Atlanta, on the Disney-owned FX). But where things really start to get fun is the rumor that none other than Malia Obama — the 22-year-old daughter of former Chicago resident Barack Obama — is rumored to be joining the writers room of Hive, one of the projects Glover is producing for Amazon. The show, from Watchmen writer Janine Nabers, is said to “revolve around a Beyoncé-like figure.” Though Malia Obama hasn’t yet graduated from Harvard, she has some pretty impressive TV experience under her belt already, including interning on Lena Dunham’s HBO show Girls in 2015. Humbly turning down major honors seems to be a 9 to 5 job for Dolly Parton. The beloved country singer on Thursday said she has asked Tennessee’s legislature to remove a bill to erect a statue of her on the state’s Capitol grounds from consideration, despite being “honored and humbled” by the effort. “Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time,” Parton said. This comes weeks after Parton revealed she turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom from former President Donald Trump not once, but twice. Parton did express openness to a statue being erected at Tennessee’s Capitol “several years from now or perhaps after I’m gone, if you still feel I deserve it.” [CNN, The Week]

February has been a big month for British royal baby news: Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank welcomed their first child, a baby boy, last week, while this week Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke the news that they’re expecting their second child later this year. Now House Stark of Westeros has some news of its own to share: Game of Thrones actors Rose Leslie and Kit Harington welcomed a baby boy, and were spotted stepping out with him in London. Though not technically real-life royals, Leslie and Harington — who played in-show love interests Ygritte and Jon Snow — were married in 2018 at “Leslie’s ancestral castle,” Page Six reports, and they share King Charles II as a distant relative. Harington’s rep confirmed the obvious: the couple are “very, very happy!” [Page Six]

Wednesday Addams, the patron saint of goth girls, is getting her own show on Netflix — and Tim Burton is directing. The Addams Family spin-off will be Burton’s first television show, adding to a mysterious and spooky catalogue that already includes Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Wednesday, the eight-episode “live-action coming-of-age comedy,” follows Wednesday’s years as a student at the Nevermore Academy, where she “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.” Think Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, but a little ookier. Selling Sunset star Heather Rae Young is insisting that people took her new tattoo “completely out of context” after she shared the Valentine’s Day gift for her fiancé, Flip or Flop‘s Tarek El Moussa, on social media. Young’s tattoo — which is placed on what People discreetly describes as her “backside” and reads “yes sir, Mr. El Moussa” — is a reference to “something cute we do around the house,” Young told E!’s Daily Pop. She explained, “I will be Mrs. El Moussa, so this is my name. And it is a special thing that we do around the house: Daddy is the boss, I’m the queen of the house.” El Moussa added, “For someone to put a tattoo of our family last name, it’s a big deal.” Whatever you say!
